Complete Personal Biography:

About Catherine "Katie" Scheib (pronounced Shibe):

Catherine Scheib, known as Katie by friends and family, was the first college graduate in her family when, at 26, she received an Associates degree in Engineering Technology. Shortly thereafter Katie was hired as the Community Development Director for Union County.  In the years to follow Katie served in the same position for the Borough of Milton where she picked up additional responsibilities including zoning and code enforcement and finally for the City of Sunbury primarily to manage a 10 million dollar Riverfront/flood control project that was stalled due to lack of proper administrative oversight.

In the mid ‘90’s, she received a full scholarship to attend Bucknell University in Lewisburg where after working hard and staying focused she graduated in the top 3% of her graduating class- not an easy feat for a divorced single mom with 2 children at home.

Upon graduating Bucknell Katie entered the financial services industry and, in the evening and on weekends, while working for the City of Sunbury, grew her financial services practice.  Today she is the owner of the Harrisburg location of Progressive Asset Management offering a values based approach to investing by encouraging clients to support companies that demonstrate positive environmental, social and governing practices.

After the death of her father - a WWII Navy veteran, Katie studied for the Veterans Administration exam and became an Accredited Claims Agent in order to assist her mother in applying for benefits.  She continues to giveback to those that served our country by providing benefit application/appeal assistance to other Veterans and their families.

Equally important is her experience as a community leader  – Katie served 8 years as a two term elected council representative on the Lewisburg Borough Council, 7 years as an appointed representative to a multi-regional board of recreation (BVRA) and one year as a Lewisburg district school board director.  She's dedicated additional hours of community service as a coach for youth soccer and cheerleading and most recently served as Secretary of the Board of the Capital Area Green Belt Association.

(Below is a personal note from Katie herself)

I have  an awesome family.

22 years ago I married my husband Eric and we blended a family of 6 children - 5 girls and 1 boy - today 4 of our children are college graduates 3 with bachelor degrees, one with a masters degree, and one almost through law school.  One is an Air Force Reserve veteran. 5 are married and we have 12 grandchildren.

As many of you know, families have their good times, and their not so good times.  Ours is no exception.  As an example, in 2003, financial hardship struck when, after 27 years of service as a Union protected welder, my husband found himself unemployed.  It was by sheer Providence that with only one week left of unemployment and medical benefits, he was hired by Norfolk Southern Railroad where he continues to work as a locomotive engineer.

One daughter is married to a man of color and as a bi-racial couple with bi-racial children they, and by extension, us, as a family, have suffered the indignities of racial discrimination, prejudice and intolerance.

One of our daughters is a legal advocate for a domestic violence shelter and one of our son-in-laws is a career EMT/firefighter so family dinner talk includes serious discussions on domestic abuse, first responder calls and the need for well-funded fire/police and social services.

The Opiod epidemic is real to us. Our youngest is entering her 4th year of being clean from a Heroin addiction and we are all too aware that we are lucky she is alive.

Overall, I am fortunate to have a family that together celebrates its successes and shares its hardships.  We demonstrate an empathy for others.  We are open and honest, usually humble and always willing to roll up our sleeves to get the job done.  IF elected, I promise to bring this same dedication of service to others to the residents of Lower Paxton Township and thank you for your support.
